Hello! I’m Ashlyn, the founder of Proper Coffee and Bakes!
A few of my favorite things to do are; finding a good coffee shop, going to the farmers market, and getting a little sweet treat. Although, in my hometown of Venice FL, it’s slightly difficult to indulge in the luxury of a yummy dessert and a good latte, considering I have a million food allergies.
I have lived in this area my entire life, and when I was younger, finding options for dessert was impossible in our area. I was that kid in class that had apple slices from home instead of cupcakes the other kids brought in for their birthdays.
My mom, the woman with 3 daughters all with various different food allergies, took the initiative to learn all about allergy friendly and vegan baking, and she is arguably the best baker ever. She started my sweet tooth and love for baking at a very young age. Imagine an 8 year old baking vegan chocolate chip cookies from scratch alone, without supervision.
I’ve also always been obsessed with coffee, (addicted since I was 14 lol) but in recent years, learning the chemistry and art of espresso/coffee has been my biggest interest. When my boyfriend Blake and I met, he absolutely hated coffee. Obviously that had to be changed, and now he orders an oat milk cortado everywhere we go. We both grew our love and knowledge for coffee in the past 5 years together, and are obsessed with finding great traditional espresso drinks and a good vibe at a cafe.
I am so excited to share my vision of Proper Coffee and Bakes with the wonderful patrons of Sarasota county!
